LE CLAIRE, Iowa — An East Moline man is dead after his vehicle crashed into a tree in LeClaire on Monday, July 8.

LeClaire police discovered the vehicle just before 5 a.m. near the T-intersection of Forest Grove Road and SW 35th Street. Officials said the driver, the sole occupant, was slumped over the steering wheel.

A preliminary investigation determined the vehicle was driving east on Forest Grove Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection, driving through the intersection and striking a tree on the east side of SW 35th Street.

Officials removed the driver from the vehicle and attempted life-saving measures, but the driver was ultimately pronounced dead, according to a news release.

The driver was identified as a 38-year-old East Moline man. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to officials.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office, Scott Emergency Communications Center, Scott County Medic EMS, LeClaire Police Department and the LeClaire Fire Department assisted in the accident.
