EAST MOLINE, Ill. — The East Moline Correctional Center is placed on full lockdown as of Monday evening, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) website

According to IDOC's website, visits are not allowed due to the lockdown. It's unclear when the lockdown began or how long it will last. The prison warden's office declined to comment. News 8 has reached out for information from the IDOC and is waiting to hear back.

We also reached out to AFSCME Council 31, the union that represents IDOC workers, who said they are working to get additional information.

EMCC is a minimum security male prison that opened in November 1980. It houses 482 inmates as of June of this year. It was converted from a mental health facility and consists of 26 buildings on more than 80 acres.

"The East Moline Correctional Center is designed to provide multiple programs and services to the individual in custody population to help individuals in custody prepare for community reintegration," IDOC's website says. "The facility provides support to surrounding communities assisting with storm and general cleanup. The East Moline Correctional Center continues to strive for individual accountability, increased staff performance, the continuum of programs and services and helping to ensure a safe, secure and holistic correctional environment for staff and the individual in custody population."
