Construction on the I-74 bridge is causing a headache for drivers trying to get from one side to the other. Quad City police are urging the public to Zipper Merge onto the bridge.
This morning, Misty Swanson took the I-74 bridge to work and when she tried to Zipper Merge she said she ran into an upset driver, "I go to merge into the lane and this van that I tried to merge in front of wouldn't let me merge in," said Misty Swanson, resident, Moline, Illinois.
If she would've kept trying to get into the other lane she said the driver would've hit her, "He rolls his window down and he starts cussing me out and telling me to get to the end of the, you know, line and I'm like we're all just trying to follow the rules so we're not so backed up here," said Swanson.
She's not the only driver on the road encountering road rage, Frank Brandi from Moline, Illinois said he avoids the bridge whenever he can because the traffic can be confusing. "They used to say use both lanes to the merge point but now it looks like people are going single file," said Brandi.
Others are afraid to even attempt to Zipper Merge onto the bridge, "I have a couple times but I really don't like the nasty stares you get, so I'll just stay in the one lane," said Sadie Kaminski, resident, Davenport, Iowa.
Swanson didn't have the best start to her day and hopes that people can have patience when traveling over the bridge, "If they're just courteous and let people in it wouldn't be so tied up, it wouldn't be backed up," said Swanson.
The construction is just at the beginning and Kaminski said the best thing to do the pass the time is, "Make a good playlist, it took me 40 minutes just to cross the bridge."
