DURANT, Iowa — A water main break prompted a boil advisory for the City of Durant.
Residents were advised to boil their water before use starting Friday, May 20, 2016, according to City Operations Officer Deana Cavin.
“Water supply customers should not drink the water without boiling it first,” said a statement from the city. “Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.”
Around 8 a.m. Friday, crews working on a street reconstruction project hit and broke a water main. It was repaired by 9 a.m. Now the city has to perform tests before the water can be considered safe again.
Testing should be complete on Tuesday, May 24, and the advisory is expected to be lifted at noon that day according to Cavin. Keep in mind that an extension is possible.
