The Davenport Police Department wrapped up their annual Family Resources Toy Drive on December 13 and 14.
For the past 12 years, Davenport police officers have collected toys and money for the local domestic violence shelters, providing victims with a holiday boost.
"We deal with a lot of domestic violence in our line of work, and these kids are innocent victims," said Tim Murphy, a detective with the Davenport Police Department.
Organizers say the toy drive began in 2002, when some grinch broke into the Family Resources office and stole all the gifts. Since that day, the toy drive has continued to grow.
"Last year we raised more that $6,000, and each year we help over 75 families that are affected by domestic violence and sexual assault," said Wendy Navarro of Family Resources.
Car after car pulled into the NorthPark Mall on Saturday and Sunday, giving cash donations and trash bags full of toys. Officers would take the presents, thanking those who donated and wishing them a Merry Christmas.
Toys were loaded into an RV, which was donated by US Adventure RV, and sent to the Davenport Police Department where officers would wrap the gifts.
Navarro said the donations provide a since of hope to kids impacted by domestic violence or sexual abuse.
"It's about providing hope and the feeling that things may get better in the future," Navarro said.
"Many times, victims and their children have to leave with nothing, and around the holidays, it's important to feel hopeful about things," she added.
Anyone who missed the toy drive, but is interested in donating can deliver gifts to the Davenport Police Department or the Family Resources office.
