Thousands of area residents lost electricity service during cold, snowy weather early Tuesday afternoon, October 22, 2013.
MidAmerican Energy reported nearly4,500 customers in the Quad Cities area without power during the noon hour.
About 2,500 customers were without electricity then on the Iowa side of the Quad Cities. More than 2,100 of those outages were in Camanche.
Just over 1,900 Illinois-side customers were without power as well. All but about 80 of those outages were in East Moline. MidAmerican’s website showed most of the Illinois-side outages were restored by about 1 p.m. but, moments later, the site showed more than 1,800 outages remained in East Moline.
East Moline Schools dismissed students at the Black Hawk Area Education Center at 1 p.m. because of the power outage.
By 2 p.m., the site showed just over 250 outages remained on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities. Just over 100 outages remained in Davenport, about 200 in Bettendorf and just over 800 customers were still without power in Camanche. Most of the Camanche outages were reportedly restored before 2:15 p.m.
Just before 3 p.m., most of the Davenport, East Moline and Camanche outages were restored. Just over 250 customers in Coal Valley were reportedly without electricity at that time, and nearly 150 customers in Bettendorf were still without power.
