MT. JOY, Iowa -
After 30 years of soaring across the sky, the Quad City Air Show could be making its final landings on June 25 and 26, 2016.
"We'll never say never," said Lori Hopper, communications director. "But as of right now, we're just kind of in a holding pattern."
Reasons why parachute jumps by the Golden Knights will be more poignant than ever.
The Army team is returning for performances on Saturday and Sunday.
"These local shows, not a lot of people have ever seen a soldier, let alone a soldier that jumps out of an airplane," said Sgt. Dan Osorio.
But a space shortage could prove to be the last hurrah.
Show organizers say they're simply running out of room.
"A lot of these war birds, there's only a few of them left," Hopper continued. "They're millions of dollars to upkeep. We need hangar space to put them in when they're here for the weekend."
Davenport is ready to keep providing nearly $35,000 in support.
But with plans to renovate runways at the Davenport Municipal Airport, the 2017 show is unlikely.
Davenport Mayor Frank Klipsch wants the show to continue.
He calls it a great regional event that draws a lot of people.
"How do we make it effective, and do what we need to do?" he asked. "At the same time, be respectful of the taxpayers and taxpayer funds. How do we balance that for the future?"
The Air Show is reflecting on 30 years in the Quad Cities, but it's less certain about taking off again.
"Until we get a home that we can stay in, we really don't have anywhere to go," she said.
They'll concentrate now on big shows for Saturday and Sunday.
"We just need more support if we're going to keep the show in the air," she concluded.
After three decades of flight, hoping to soar again.
Gates will open at 8 a.m. on June 25 and 26, at the Davenport Municipal Airport.
