Cubs fans around the Quad Cities are celebrating the team's first World Series win in 108 years.
On Thursday, November 3, 2016, Dan Wessel brought out his own wooden Cubs and set up shop in front of the WQAD News 8 studio. He was waving and giving the "thumbs up" to cars that drove by. The 79-year-old has been waiting for a victory like this for a long time, and apparently so have his painted Cubs figures.
"This came out of hibernation after 108 years," said Wessel, as he showed off his life-sized Cubs statues. "There's a lot of happy Cubs fans today."
Bev Muhs fulfilled a World Series promise she made roughly 20 years ago.
When her husband, Don, passed away, Bev vowed she would hire a plane and fly a banner over his grave if the Cubs ever won the World Series. On Thursday, a plane took off from the Davenport Municipal Airport with a sign reading, "Don, Cubs won the pennant! Bev."
"It's very emotional. Tonight, I'll be bawling in my bed," said Muhs. "That's just absolutely beautiful."
All over the Quad Cities there are signs of Cubbie pride. At the New Style Barbershop, Miguel Rosas shaved a "Fly the W" flag into a Cubs fan's hair. Nearby, workers at the Super Wash in Moline came in overnight to display their fandom.
"I came in early this morning so I could change the sign, and my partner who works with me came in at 1:30 last night and changed it. He beat me to it!" said Keene Hart.
The sign now reads, "Cubs Win. 2016 World Champs."
