QC’s first pickleball tournament raised money for cancer research

Event organizers hope to donate between $1,500 to $2,000 to the American Cancer Society.

MOLINE, Illinois — The Quad City Tennis Club in Moline held the QC's first ever pickleball tournament for charity on Saturday, July 23.

The tournament had been scheduled to be held in Northwest Park, but was moved due to the extreme heat. All players were welcome. More than 100 people from all over the region entered the three events.

Items were auctioned and raffled off to raise money for the American Cancer Society. That cause hits close to home for the tournament's director.

"It's personal to me. My mother passed away when she was 35. My father passed away when he was 68. Cancer research is making great strides. And I think every little thing that people can do to contribute and to make people aware of it, I think it's all helpful," said Jeff Collar.

Event organizers hope to donate between $1,500 to $2,000 to the cancer society.
