Investigators say four days passed between the time a Cambridge, Iowa man killed his wife and the time they discovered her body in the couple’s home.
Someone called police April 14 and reported 49-year-old Vallerie Cory had not been seen since Friday, April 4, 2014, according to an affidavit filed by investigators. The caller said Vallerie’s husband, 44-year-old Jeremy Cory, had been threatening her with a loaded gun.
When Huxley, Iowa Police went to the Cory home in Cambridge, they found Vallerie’s body in an upstairs bedroom.
Vallerie Cory suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators said Jeremy Cory told them Vallerie had been dead since Friday morning, April 11, the affidavit said.
Police said there was no sign of a struggle, and no one else was in the house.
The affidavit said Jeremy Cory answered their question about what happened by saying, “It didn’t work out.”
Jeremy Cory was charged with one count of first-degree murder. Court records show he was appointed a public defender and was next scheduled to appear in court April 25.
Jeremy Cory was held in the Story County Jail in lieu of $1-million cash-only bond.
