An old church turned museum is now open in Rock Island. Karpeles Manuscript Museum is located at 700 22nd Street and opens Monday at 11 am.
The new museum is a part of the an organization that has a collection of over one million documents and manuscripts but still hopes to give this area a personal touch
The new Karpeles Manuscript Museum is one of 12 like it in the country. The private organization is the world’s largest holding of important original documents.
The Rock Island location will feature rotating collections of historical manuscripts, some dating back well into the 1800’s. The documents include things from various fields including literature, science, religion and art.
The first exhibit here will be focused on Mark Twain.
Regular business hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 4 pm. Admission is free.
