A man from Galesburg and a woman from Burlington died when their cars collided nearly head-on on U.S. 34 in Henderson County, Illinois.
Police said 46-year-old Christopher Brooks of Galesburg, Illinois, was driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on U.S. 34 when he crossed the center line and hit the driver’s side front corner of a a westbound 2008 Kia Optima just before 9 p.m. Monday, November 17, 2014.
Brooks and the driver of the Kia, 50-year-old Cynthia Stambaugh of Burlington, Iowa, died in the crash.
Stambaugh was wearing a seat belt; Brooks was not wearing a seat belt, according to Illinois State Police.
Each driver was alone in their vehicle at the time of the crash. No other vehicles were involved.
