The owner of the Getaway Grill and Bar in Muscatine, Iowa was arrested and charged with bootlegging after police said the business sold alcohol without a liquor license.
Muscatine County deputies showed up at the business, at 2921 Highway 22, just before 6 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014.
“The Sheriff’s Office was investigating complaints that the business was engaged in the sale of alcohol and has no liquor license issued by the State of Iowa that would allow them to legally do so,” said a statement from Muscatine Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy C.J. Ryan.
All of the alcohol was seized from the business.
Police said they arrested the business owner, 37-year-old Corie Lee Cottrell, and charged her with bootlegging. Jail records show Cottrell was released after posting bond.
“I was brought a search warrant and my place was searched after it was searched I was told they were getting me for not having the appropriate license and later it was put as bootlegging,” Cottrell said in a post to the Getaway Grill and Bar Facebook page. The post said the business would remain open, but would not currently serve alcohol.
