Western Illinois University has backed out an agreement to move the old Moline Train Depot building to its Quad Cities campus, according to the university.

Moline Historic Preservation Commission member Barbara Sandberg spoke to News 8 on Monday, September 15, 2014. Back in December of 2012, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn announced that the Department of Transportation would help pay the rest of the cost to move the building to the WIU-QC campus.

The Historic Preservation Commission is now looking for a new place to put the building. Monday, Sandberg said she'd like a developer to still move the building near the WIU-QC campus. She told us Monday, she'd like to see a Starbucks or McDonald's put in the 114 year-old building.

If the building is demolished, Sandberg says that everyone who donated to the cause two years ago, would get their money back. The depot has to move east because it is in the way of the new I-74 bridge.
