The Moline city council voted Tuesday not to relocate the old historic train depot along River Drive.  They choose to sell it to the Illinois Department of Transportation which will save the city $154,000 dollars.

The old train depot must be moved or demolished because it is in the way of building the new I-74 bridge project.

There were talks of moving the depot to the Western Illinois Quad Cities Campus but instead the old Moline train depot now belongs to the Illinois Department of Transportation and will soon be demolished.

The Illinois DOT had offered one million dollars to help with the cost of relocation but still was asking the city of Moline to contribute around 154,000 dollars.

Don Welveart, mayor of Moline says the city just can’t afford the expense.
