Reverend Dwight Ford will be leaving his post as the Executive Director of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Rock Island on Friday, January 22, 2016.
Ford's last MLK memorial service was Monday, January 18, 2016. Ford now plans to pursue a PHD, focusing on MLK's work in Chicago, back in 1966. Ford says he's sad to leave the King Center, but he is excited to purse his life long dream.
"I am happy of course about my future," Ford said. "But I am also appreciative about the fact that I had this very life impacting experience here at the King Center."
Ford has been the director of the King Center for the past three years. His replacement has not yet been named.
