Davenport Mayor Bill Gluba used his second veto Wednesday night to strike down plans to redevelop the old Dock restaurant site on the riverfront.
Last Wednesday, aldermen unanimously approved a development agreement with Todd Raufeisen, who plans to demolish the flood-ravaged Dock and build a new, three-story structure with restaurants, offices and banquet space.
Gluba, though, said he is siding with the city's Levee Commission, which wants to see a smaller development, further from the Mississippi River. He also said he wants to see a building that is publicly, not privately, owned.
"You don't just turn our beautiful, most precious section of the river over to a private developer and let him have at it," said Gluba.
The City Council has scheduled a special meeting for next Wednesday, July 23, at 5 p.m.
Aldermen plan to make a motion to override the mayor's veto at that meeting.
