ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (AP) — A jockey at Arlington International Racecourse has been injured after being thrown from his horse during a race on the turf.

Chris Emigh, 45, was riding during the second race when his horse collided with a temporary turf rail, the Daily Herald reported Saturday.

Arlington spokesman Brian Spencer says Emigh was transported to a hospital Saturday afternoon and reported in good condition. Spencer says he suffered a laceration and needed stitches.

Spencer calls it a rare occurrence in horse racing.

The horse, Fitz’s Storm, was able to run but one of its legs was bleeding. The horse was taken off the track in an equine ambulance.
