An Iowa man, who was there when a devastating earthquake struck in Nepal, has been found after his family was unable to reach him.
Cole Donahue, of New Albin, had traveled to Nepal to climb Mount Everest. An earthquake that killed thousands of people, and left thousands more injured, struck Saturday, April 25, 2015. Aftershocks followed, as well as avalanches that killed and stranded climbers on Mount Everest.
Donahue’s family and friends began an online search for him, reaching out to the U.S. Embassy, the State Department, Google’s Person Finder and a Facebook page dedicated to finding him.
A post to that Facebook page Monday, April 27, 2015, indicated Cole Donahue was found and unharmed.
“I was about 45 minutes away from Everst (sic) Base Camp when the earthquake which then caused a gigantic avalanche occurred. It buried myself and 6 others I was with but we were all out with in seconds and all walked away with no injuries,” said a post from Donahue that was shared on the page.
Donahue planned to be in the U.S. by May 2, the post said.
