Police say they found about $250,000 worth of marijuana plants growing in a state park in Whiteside County, Illinois.

A deer hunter discovered the plants while location scouting for the upcoming archery deer hunting season, according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.  Conservation Police and members of the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office cut down 260 illegally-grown marijuana plants at Big Bend State Fish and Wildlife Area near Prophetstown, the statement said.

The plants were estimated to be worth a quarter-of-a-million dollars.

Police did not say who was suspected of growing the plants.

Anyone with information about the plants should call Whiteside County Crime Stoppers at 815-625-7867.  Calls are anonymous and callers could get up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
