A semi-truck hauling hogs on I-80 caught fire blocking several lanes of the Iowa roadway.
According to a report by WHO, on Friday, November 1, 2013 Iowa State Patrol said that a semi’s rear right tire blew out on I-80 near Des Moines around 7:30 p.m. The remaining pieces of the tire spread fire to the semi’s trailer, killing several hogs.
WHO said that some of the hogs escaped onto the road and the Iowa State Patrol had to shoot some of the animals so they did not run into traffic.
According to the report, Iowa Department of Transportation cameras showed that the roadway was reopened before 9 p.m.
