BOONE, Iowa (AP) — A historic bridge near Boone has partially collapsed into the Des Moines River.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the west side of the Wagon Wheel Bridge collapsed Thursday afternoon, March 10, 2016.
The span was damaged last month by flowing ice.
The Wagon Wheel Bridge was documented as historic back in 2009, according to HistoricBridges.org. It was constructed in 1911 by the Iowa Bridge Company of Des Moines.
