MANLIUS, Illinois — The candy handed out to children on Halloween that was originally thought by authorities to contain THC has tested negative for the drug, according to the Bureau County Sheriff's Office.
The candy was handed out during trick-or-treating in Manlius, Illinois on Sunday, Oct. 30. The candy bars were sent to the Illinois State Crime Lab in Morton and a final lab test showed that the bars did not contain THC, the compound found in cannabis, says authorities.
The candy bars are believed to have been made in Japan and have been deemed safe for consumption. Authorities do not believe that there was an intention to harm children.
The alert sent out by the Bureau County Sheriff's Office was sent out as a precautionary measure as it would take time for the lab to deem the candy safe, says police.
The Bureau County Sheriff's Office declined to comment further.
