For the third year in a row, Genesis Medical Center has earned a coveted “high performing” ranking from the annual U.S. News Best Hospitals list.

Genesis finished second in the state of Iowa only to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Genesis was tied for second with UnityPoint St. Luke’s of Cedar Rapids as top-ranked community hospitals in the state.

The annual U.S. News analysis of hospitals includes data from nearly 5,000 centers across multiple clinical specialties, procedures and conditions.  Scores are based on a variety of patient outcome and care-related factors, such as patient safety and nurse staffing.  Hospitals are ranked nationally in specialties and regionally in states and major metro areas. U.S. News assigns a rating to hospitals in a group of common procedures and conditions.

Genesis Medical Center, Davenport was ranked as “high performing’’ in the clinical specialties of gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, geriatrics and pulmonary. Genesis was also ranked as “high performing’’ in five procedures and conditions. Those five are chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); colon cancer surgery; heart failure; hip replacement; and, knee replacement.

A high ranking is highly coveted, said Jordan Voigt, president of Genesis Medical Center.

“It takes a dedicated team of physicians, nurses and all staff who touch the lives of our patients to provide nationally recognized care,” Voigt said. “But the real benefit is not to Genesis but to the patients served by Genesis. This recognition considers quality of care, safety of care and excellent patient outcomes. We thank all of our staff, not only in Davenport, but in all areas of Genesis.”
