Some very special kids are ready to make a splash this summer.

Flying fish is a student run organization that teaches kids with special needs how to swim. Each child is paired with an instructor, so they can get one on one attention. Student volunteers from United Township High School says, this is the best way for their kids to get comfortable in the water.

"Usually when we have kids that com in they're scared of the water. Maybe they swim for only 20 minutes or so but towards the end you really see the smiles on their faces, it's awesome," says volunteer Abby Jansen.

The Children's Therapy Center of the Quad Cities sponsors this program and hand picks the lifeguards and swim instructors.

The Flying Fish program started in 2008 in the United Township High School but has expanded to Black Hawk College.

The Children's Therapy Center Telethon will air on WQAD from 11 am -5 pm on April 10.  All of the money raised will be used locally.
