One firefighter has been taken to the hospital after a fire near the city of Walcott.
It happened on Monday, October 19, 2015 at a vacant home on Historic U.S. 6, south of the Iowa 80 Truck Stop. Firefighters say the blaze happened around 11:30 p.m. The firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The home was fully engulfed in flames as crews arrived on scene. Several area fire departments were called in to fight the blaze, and crews were on scene for several hours putting out hot spots.
Firefighters say the home is likely a total loss. Fire crews also say a nearby corn field caught fire three times during the blaze.
