An apartment fire, that investigators were later calling "suspicious," in East Moline forced residents to be evacuated from their building.
The East Moline Fire Department was called to the scene just after 8:50 a.m. on Friday, January 29, 2015, at the Colonial House apartment complex, near the 1100 block of Avenue of the Cities.
Residents say a maintenance man was working in the laundry room when he noticed smoke and flames coming from the room. Residents said the laundry room had been out of service for some time.
Residents tell News 8 the maintenance man, along with one other resident, started knocking on doors throughout the complex to try to get people out of the building, after they both spotted the flames.
"You could see the flames coming up underneath the the laundry room. So we went and started getting people out of there," said Wayne Gordon, a resident at Colonial House apartment complex.
Residents said this is the second fire fire that has happened here in the last two years.
Fire Chief Robert DeFrance later said that the fire was contained to a storage and laundry room area. No injuries were reported.
Investigators were asking for anyone with information about the fire to contact the East Moline Police Department at 309-752-1555 or Crime Stoppers at 309-762-9500.
