A fire that lasted about an hour-and-a-half destroyed a home in Mercer County.
The fire in Matherville, Illinois began around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. It happened at the corner of 1st Street and Main Avenue.
Flames were visible outside of the home on top of the roof. The owner of the home said nobody was home when the fire started. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. No injuries were reported.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department and Viola, Matherville, and Sherrard Fire Departments responded to the fire.The home looks to be a total loss, but the State Fire Marshall has not confirmed that information.
The father was taking her daughter to school when they got a call saying that their home was on fire. Both the father and daughter will be staying with family and friends Tuesday night. They have not determined any costs estimates for damage.
