IOWA CITY – A former Davenport elementary school teacher was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily injury and public intoxication after an altercation in Iowa City early Wednesday morning.
Eusebio Jimenez Jr., 30, is accused of attacking a group of people near the intersection of Washington and Linn streets in Iowa City around 1 a.m. on Aug. 9, according to ICPD reports. A victim claimed Jiminez Jr. hit him with a shoe and then struck another man with his hand near the U.S. Bank parking lot. The police report says Jiminez Jr. tacked the victim before being pulled off by bystanders.
Jimenez, who had taught English as a Second Language at Jefferson Elementary in Davenport, offered his resignation on July 5 of this year, said Davenport Community School District communications director Dawn Saul. His resignation was approved by the board in early August, she added.
According to a report in The Daily Iowan, the University of Iowa student newspaper, Jimenez Jr. was also arrested in Iowa City in May, 2011 and charged with a third offense of Operating While Intoxicated and possession of cocaine.
