A Dubuque, Iowa man faces criminal charges after he allegedly drove a concrete truck through another company’s freshly-poured cement.
Police said 30-year-old Vince O’Hara was working for Perfection Concrete when he drove a cement truck around barricades and through a portion of the 26000 block of Centerville Road that was paved earlier in the day Friday, October 18, 2013.
Police said the paving contractor was Horsefield Construction and that Perfection Concrete had no affiliation with the project.
The truck reportedly left three- to six-inch ruts in the fresh cement. Police said damage was estimated between $200,000 and $250,000.
The formerly-gravel road, near St. Donatus, Iowa, was paved in 2013 and was reportedly scheduled to reopen the week of October 21, but that was expected to be delayed because of the damage. Increasingly colder temperatures could also slow the repair and increase the costs.
A spokesman for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said O’Hara was charged with felony first-degree criminal mischief, misdemeanor criminal trespassing and misdemeanor driving under suspension.
Perfection Concrete reportedly fired O’Hara after the incident.
