Donald Trump Burlington, IA comments put through fact check

As for being correct in what he’s saying, a few statements don’t exactly line up with the facts.

Supporters of Donald Trump in Burlington, Iowa respond strongly to his push against political correctness. As for being correct in what he's saying, a few statements don't exactly line up with the facts.

Trump started his speech by listing off a number of polls he's shown as the leader. He then got the latest results from Iowa.

"You know we're winning, very importantly, in Iowa. We're winning, and we're winning big," Trump said on Wednesday.

This declaration from Trump, based on the latest polls, is not true. The latest poll of Iowa Republicans from Quinnipiac University shows Ben Carson leading Trump, 28% to 20%.

Trump, however, sees his election as a foregone conclusion, like a golfer who has an insurmountable lead.

"'He's just looking for the clubhouse, Johnny. He's just looking for the clubhouse.' A lot of truth, the golfers understand that. We just want to get in and get this election going. I wish we had, like in some countries, they can call an election, they can call it. Can we have it tomorrow? I want to do it now!" Trump said.

History doesn't work in Trump's favor with this statement, so we label this untrue as well. According to poll data from Real Clear Politics, during this stretch of the campaign four years ago, eventual Republican nominee Mitt Romney was behind in the polls to both Rick Perry and Herman Cain.

Another claim: Donald Trump considers himself the best job creator in the field, and disputes the country's unemployment rate.

"An economist, and a very smart guy, two weeks ago said the real number is 42%. That's high. Let's say it's 30% or 25% or 20% or 15%. One thing we know, it's not 5.2% or 5.3%," Trump said.

Depending on who you believe, this can either be true or false.

Trump is referring to an article written in June by economist David Stockman comparing the total hours eligible workers in the country could work compared to what they did work. In that case, Stockman says the rate would be 42%.

However, the official government statistics show a national unemployment rate in September of 5.1%.

Trump admitted openly that he speaks from his heart about what he believes about his campaign, and not from any prepared speech.
