The city of Dixon, Illinois will hold a public forum on Thursday, October 10, 2013.
The meeting will discuss how the city should spend the money it's received back after its settlement with three accounting firms. On September 25th, the city received a $40 million settlement with three accounting firms that had looked over the city's finances. CliftonLarsonAllen is paying more than $36 million of that settlement.
Dixon Mayor Jim Burke says the city will have to pay the law firm they used, Power, Rogers, and Smith, 25% of that money, or $10 million. The city has recouped another $10 million from the U.S. Marshals Office. They've sold off some of Crundwell's lavish items. In reality, the city has really recovered about $40 million of the $53 million that she stole.
"I told our attorney because we were talking about it, I said, don't leave any money on the table," Dixon Mayor Jim Burke said. "That means if you found out later that you could get an additional three or four or five million dollars, that would be what you call leaving money on the table. I don't think any money was left on the table.":
Thursday's meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the Loveland House and Museum. Nothing will be approved at the meeting.
