The Davenport Public Works director has announced that he is leaving the position. Staff members of the Public Works Department will be stepping in to take over duties of the director's position until a new director is named.
Director Mike Clarke will be moving to work in the central-southern east coast, a place that his family considers to be home, according to a statement from the city.
"We appreciate that he has advised the city of his plans in order to ensure a smooth transition and maintain our high quality services," said Interim City Administrator Corri Spiegel.
Several staff members will pull together to cover Clarke's duties once he leaves. Senior management will oversee the department, Solid Waste Superintendent will oversee infrastructure systems, City Engineer Brian Schadt will oversee engineering and Logistics Manager Nicole Gleason will take over operations and support services.
Clarke was hired in 2009 after working as deputy commander and chief of staff of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Rock Island District.
