Davenport, Iowa made a new list of the Top 20 River Towns in the United States.
The list is in the October 2012 issue of Outside Magazine, a publication dedicated to adventure travel with a circulation of about 700,000.
The article says Davenport “defies the region’s rep for cornfields and grain silos,” with culture and rugged recreation. It notes the Figge Art Museum, fishing on the Mississippi River, 30-miles of available off-road cycling track in the city limits and the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival as highlights in Davenport.
The Top Ten Riverfront towns in the article are Richmond, Virginia; Nevada City, California; Boise, Idaho; Durango, Colorado; Missoula, Montana; Nashville, Tennessee; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Asheville, North Carolina; Hood River, Oregon and Ithaca, New York.
Ten cities were write-in candidates to round out the top 20 list. They are LaCrosse, Wisconsin; Bristol, Vermont; Great Falls, Montana; Davenport, Iowa; Cle Elum, Washington; Jackson, Wyoming; Columbia, South Carolina; Salida, Colorado; Sacramento, California and Eugene, Oregon.
