A historic Davenport home named Overview is now in the national spotlight, nominated for a Doory Award as one of HGTV's D-I-Y Dream Homes.
"It was built in 1901 for August Steffen Jr.," said realtor Alex Wolking. "He was one of Davenport's first merchants."
The four bedroom, four bathroom home at 412 W. Sixth Street in Davenport's historic Gold Coast neighborhood features a refinished kitchen, sweeping panoramic views of downtown Davenport, refinished floors and original windows. It's now on the market, listed for $349,000.
"Much of the work that's been done are things you don't really notice," said David Cordes, a local preservationist. "The plumbing, the wiring, the roof was [all] restored and tile put back on."
"Just on the 1st and 2nd floor alone, there's over 6200 square feet," said Wolking, "and if you throw in the attic and basement, it's 12,000 square feet."
"It's a beautiful home, with the finishing touches left to go," Cordes added, "and it'll take someone with a little knowledge, a little energy and a little money too to finish it up."
One of just eight homes from coast-to-coast nominated for the HGTV award, people can vote for it each day via the link below. The listing realtor who wins the entire contest wins, among other things, a $10,000 prize, which Wolking told News 8 he'd reinvest back into the community.
