DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A historic four-lane, 25-yard-long swimming pool will be used for the last time by a high school swim team before the school builds a new auditorium.

The Quad-City Times reports that the Davenport Central High School pool will be drained after the boys swim team’s last practice Friday.

By August, the team will have a new, eight-lane facility. The pool and auditorium are part of a $21.3 million addition currently being constructed at the high school, which was built in 1905.

The current pool takes up most of the deck space and has four shorter-than-normal starting blocks. The stands hold about 150 fans.

Seventeen-year-old team member Joseph Shie says the new pool will be cleaner and will make for faster times.
