CLINTON, Iowa — Iowa Rivers Revival has awarded Clinton, Iowa with the title of “River Town of the Year.”
The river advocacy group presented the award at a public reception on Friday, April 1 at the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce. The group says the award celebrates vibrant river communities across Iowa that are reclaiming river fronts for recreation, economic development, ecological practices and wood water quality.
“Clinton celebrates its past, and it prepares for its future. We are especially impressed with Clinton’s forward-looking efforts to protect the environment, improve waste water going into the river, and reduce storm water and pollutants discharging to the river,” said Jerry Peckumn, Iowa Rivers Revival Chairman.
The Regional Wastewater Reclamation Facility located in Clinton – in collaboration with nearby Camanche and Low Moor – uses new technology to reclaim waste water and reduced nutrient pollution entering the Mississippi. The recently completed $1.2 million Main Avenue Green Infrastructure Project improves storm water retention, treatment and filtering.
“Clinton is doing a great job rebuilding good connections with the Mississippi,” Peckumn said.
