CLINTON, Iowa-- Clinton County Justice Coordinating Commission held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate beginning construction for its new Law Enforcement Center Monday, October 3.
The County has been working to bring a new facility to the area for more than 8 years, which will house the Sheriff's office, jail facilities, 911 Communications Center and the Emergency Operations Center.
Voters overwhelmingly approved a tax increase to pay for the new building back in May.
The County's current center was built in 1969, and its new design will bring a more modern look and tackle the issue of over crowding.
"We had beds for 44 people and at one time... our peak was around 40 people that we were sending to other jails," says Dan Srp, Clinton County Supervisor.
Construction for the new facility will begin November 1, and is expected to wrap up in 2018.
