Clinton, Iowa has announced a new Police Chief for the city. Kevin Gyrion, who most recently served as the Chief of Police in West Liberty, Iowa, was chosen out of dozens of applicants.
Gyrion has been in law enforcement for several years. He previously worked with the City of Chicago Police Department for 28 years before coming to Iowa. He left that department at rank of Lieutenant.
"Gyrion stood out among the finalists as a candidate whose previous law enforcement experiences will lend itself well to the Clinton community and the changing public safety needs,” said City Administrator JessicaKinser.
Kinser said Gyrion came off as "a leader who is ready to take on the challenges of Clinton while working with Police Department personnel" giving the best service to the community.
Out of the three finalists, Gyrion was the only one with Police Chief experience, though all were "well-qualified."
The hiring process started back in April 2015, and 33 people applied for the position.
A resolution appointing Gyrion will be considered at a City Council meeting on August 11, 2015.
