Gasoline ignited when a space heater was knocked over, quickly spreading fire through the garage of a home in Burlington, Iowa.
The homeowner was working on a car in his garage at a home in the 2500 block of Sunrise Lane when the fire started just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015. Smoke was visible from the garage and the eaves of the house when firefighters arrived.
“(A) heater was knocked over igniting some stored gasoline and a fire quickly spread,” said Fire Marshal Mark Crooks. The fire was contained to the garage, but there was smoke damage in the house.
Estimates were still underway on two vehicles were damaged in the fire. Damage was estimated at $20,000 to the house and $15,000 to the contents.
“The house is not insured,” Crooks said.
No injuries were reported.
