Two local companies are coming together to put a twist on mustard.

It's a new product rolling down the assembly line at Boetje's Mustard. They came up with the idea to add bourbon to the list of ingredients. Boetje's pitched the idea to the Mississippi River Distilling Company, who was all for it.

"We had actually toyed with trying to make mustard vodka or something, but it just wasn't that great," said Ryan Burchett, owner of Mississippi River Distilling Company.

The distillery gave them an oak whiskey barrel that was used to age their Cody Road bourbon. After soaking for 50 days, the mustard is ready to be bottled and sold. You can still expect a little bit of that Boetje kick, but with a sweeter side. It's not officially on the market yet, but there's already a high demand. Restaurants like Barley and Rye in Moline are already using it.

"The exposure we've had already, it's not even released yet and people are trying to get it. There's a good possibility it will be sold out tonight," said Harrison Kropp, production manager at Boetje's Mustard.

Tomorrow is the official launch. They're selling the mustard and giving free samples at the Distillery in LeClaire on Friday, March 5th, from 5:30-8pm. Initially it will only be available at the gift shops at Boetje's gift shop and the Mississippi River Distilling Company. They're selling jars for $5.
