A group of tough runners celebrated a quarter-century of getting scraped-up and muddy to benefit a scholarship fund.
Sunday, November 3, 2013 was the 25th annual Governor’s Run held at Scott County Park in Long Grove, Iowa. The race director, Doug Borgeson said the two mile and four mile courses were focused less on speed and more on having a good time.
“People don’t believe we actually cut this course,” said Borgeson. “They get all scraped up but they should see what it looks like before. We have a great time doing it.”
Prizes at the finish aren’t awarded for speed, but for more unique categories like "dirtiest" and "most thorns." Those who organize and set-up the course have little ways to help runners achieve these awards.
“There are a couple ropes out there people can just see that someone may have put grease on them… nobody would do a thing like that,” Borgeson commented with a laugh.
Money raised goes into a scholarship fund.
Borgeson said they hoped to have more participants than the 800 they had in 2012.
