Downtown Davenport Partnership seeking muralists for Alternating Currents festival

The deadline for submissions is noon on Friday, July 5.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — The 2024 Alternating Currents festival is looking for artists to paint a mural during the annual event.

The mural site is located on the fencing at Armored Gardens, and the workspace will measure 20 feet by 8 feet. The selected artists will begin drawing their design on Thursday, Aug. 15 and will paint throughout the festival, with work wrapping up by 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17.

"Mural Fest was added to the lineup last year and quickly became one of our most popular arts activations,” Downtown Davenport Partnership Program Director Alisha Espey said in a press release. “We‘re excited to bring it back and witness the creation of diverse and inspiring artworks that will transform our downtown, leaving a lasting impression on residents and visitors alike.”

Artists who want to submit a mural idea are asked to create a design about what creatively inspires them.

Submissions are due by noon on Friday, July 5 and must contain a hand-drawn or digital design for the mural, an artist bio and between three to five previous work samples. Applications can be submitted here, and the winning artist or artists will be notified by Tuesday, July 16.

Selected artists or their teams will receive a $1,600 stipend for the work.
