MUSCATINE, Iowa — Officers from the Muscatine Police Department have arrested a man after responding to a domestic disturbance call Saturday, according to a press release.
Around 7 p.m. on Dec. 23, officers were dispatched to an apartment on Second Street where they heard raised voices coming from inside the unit. According to the release, officers noted that a female was calling out for help and sounded in distress.
Officers initially tried to enter through the front door. However, the door was locked and officers didn't receive a response from anyone inside the apartment.
According to the release, officers believed the female needed immediate assistance and began trying to force their way into the apartment. One officer broke a window and was able to reach the interior lock. Upon entry, officers found a male suspect assaulting the female. The suspect surrendered to police peacefully and without incident.
The male in the apartment has been identified as Austin Lee Darnell, 24, and has been charged with serious domestic assault, false imprisonment and interference with official acts causing injury. He is currently being held on bond at Muscatine County Jail.
The officer who had broken the window sustained a minor injury after cutting his finger on the broken glass. He was transferred to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
