East Moline house fire kills dog early Wednesday morning

East Moline fire crews responded to the area after a 911 caller reported seeing flames coming from the home.

EAST MOLINE, Ill. — An East Moline house fire claimed the life of one dog just before 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Crews from the East Moline Fire Department received a 911 call at 7:54 a.m. reporting smoke and flames coming from a house in the 1300 block of 11th Avenue. The home is in the Watertown neighborhood, just east of the John Deere Harvester Works plant.

According to East Moline Fire Battalion Chief Derrick Anderson, firefighters saw heavy flames coming out of the front doors and side windows when they arrived.

The department received mixed reports on the occupancy of the home so that is still being investigated. Anderson confirmed there were no injuries to any residents or firefighters but one dog died in the fire.

Investigators were still on the scene of the fire shortly before noon. Roads remain open around the scene.
