DEWITT, Iowa — A homicide investigation is underway in Clinton County after a man arrived dead with a gunshot wound at a DeWitt hospital, the sheriff's office said.
Just before 1:40 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, the DeWitt Police Department and Clinton County Sheriff's Office responded to MercyOne Genesis after receiving a report of a victim with a gunshot wound being brought into the emergency department.
Officials said the man was dead when he arrived at the hospital in a private vehicle. The case is being investigated as a homicide but the sheriff's office said it appears to be an isolated incident upon early investigation.
The victim's identity is not being released pending notification of his family.
The incident remains under investigation by the Clinton County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 563-242-9211 or Clinton County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-883-8015.
The sheriff's office and DPD received assistance from the Clinton Police Department, Scott County Sheriff's Office, Iowa State Patrol, Clinton County Attorney's Office and the Clinton County Medical Examiner's Office.
