DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Davenport Police Department just swore in its eight newest officers, the largest group since 2020.
Police Chief Jeff Bladel said the department has been struggling with hiring lately and said these officers will help reduce other concerns within the department.
"We have a lot of challenges with staffing, working extra shifts, so we hope to get to a point where we can start eliminating that piece of it and working at a full capacity," Bladel said.
The department says its still recruiting more officers to join the force, Chief Bladel said it takes about a year of training before officers can patrol by themselves.
Congratulations to OfficersNicholas Wood, Officer Shawn Hackett, Officer Israel Mora Jr., Officer Cody Jones, Officer Gerod Getty, Officer Brandon Montero, Officer Emily Anderson and Officer Trai Bunch!
