DAVENPORT, Iowa — High school students in Davenport will have some changes coming to their class schedules starting in fall 2025.
On Monday, Sept. 9, the Davenport School Board voted to adopt a new "enhanced block" schedule beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. Under the new schedule, the district will offer additional, smaller courses which school officials say will offer more flexibility and choice for students. The new options are:
- Daily "block" courses which meet for 90 minutes for a quarter, worth 0.5 credits
- Daily "skinny" courses which meet for 45 minutes for a semester, worth 0.5 credits
- Daily "mini" courses which meet for 45 minutes for one quarter, worth 0.25 credits
According to data presented at the school board meeting, Davenport's 2023-2024 high school graduation rate was 72.7%, which is the seventh-lowest in the state of Iowa.
