Davenport School Board votes to approve new high school schedule for next year

Under the new schedule, the district will offer additional, smaller courses which school officials say will offer more flexibility and choice for students.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — High school students in Davenport will have some changes coming to their class schedules starting in fall 2025.

On Monday, Sept. 9, the Davenport School Board voted to adopt a new "enhanced block" schedule beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. Under the new schedule, the district will offer additional, smaller courses which school officials say will offer more flexibility and choice for students. The new options are:

  • Daily "block" courses which meet for 90 minutes for a quarter, worth 0.5 credits
  • Daily "skinny" courses which meet for 45 minutes for a semester, worth 0.5 credits
  • Daily "mini" courses which meet for 45 minutes for one quarter, worth 0.25 credits 

According to data presented at the school board meeting, Davenport's 2023-2024 high school graduation rate was 72.7%, which is the seventh-lowest in the state of Iowa.
