Train fatally strikes pedestrian Wednesday in Davenport, closes down part of Gaines Street

Davenport police were on the scene of an incident Wednesday evening where a stopped train was blocking the Gaines Street intersection.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Update Thursday: One person is dead after they were struck by a train in downtown Davenport Wednesday afternoon.

According to Davenport police, the collision occurred around 2 p.m. at the railroad crossing near Gaines and 5th Streets. First responders found that a woman had sustained fatal injuries.

Authorities said that the death is not being investigated as suspicious in nature.

Davenport Police are on the scene of a 'train-related incident' in downtown Davenport on Wednesday afternoon.

Police sent out a traffic alert via Facebook saying that Gaines Street is closed between 4th and 6th Streets due to the incident. They encourage drivers to take alternate routes.

News 8 crews on the scene report that Gaines Street was closed off at W. 5th Street. Crime scene tape was up near a parked car near the stopped train.
