DAVENPORT, Iowa — Two residents have been displaced following a home fire in Davenport Saturday night, the Davenport Fire Department said. The residents' dog was killed in the blaze.

Just after 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 14, DFD responded to the 4800 block of W. Kimberly Road for a reported structure fire. The homeowner had called 911 saying there was smoke and fire inside and that everyone had escaped besides their dog.

DFD said it got the fire under control in about 10 minutes but stayed at the residence for 90 minutes to check for hidden fires and perform an investigation. Fire officials found the dog while searching through the home, but it did not survive.

Due to heavy fire, smoke and water damage, the home has been deemed uninhabitable, and the two residents are being helped by the Red Cross. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
